Hello
I teach piano lessons in the Sherman, Texas area. My mission is to inspire a love of classical music in my students and to guide them to musical excellency through a strong foundation. Playing the piano can be a lifelong passion that also teaches dedication, patience, and attention to detail. Not to mention–it’s fun!
Teaching Philosophy
I have two main goals in my teaching: give my students a great foundation, and inspire them to love music.
My own successes as a pianist have not come easily. I adopted some very bad habits very early in my learning process. Over time, I’ve had to invest significant effort into changing how I play the piano and even how I think about music. It has taken me many years to undo the bad that took root when I first started playing. Because I know how difficult it is to change an unhealthy habit once it has been learned, I strive to prevent my own students from developing any harmful habits of their own. I don’t want them to have to relearn how to play the piano years down the line—I want them to get it right now so that they don’t have to worry about it later.
My other main goal as a teacher is to encourage my students to love music! Music is one of the most amazing things in the world. It can make you feel any emotion, is endlessly complex, and is so fulfilling to learn. I want my students to be as excited as I am about attending a really great concert or discovering a new and amazing piece of music. I try to keep them engaged in the music and to help them find some things to enjoy in every piece.
